U2’s Adam Clayton met up with Philip King (founder of Other Voices and director of the ‘Classic Albums - U2: The Joshua Tree’ documentary) last summer while the band were in Berlin for their The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 show at the city’s Olympic Stadium.
The interview sees Adam Clayton talk about what initially drew the band to Berlin in
November 1990 to record Achtung Baby, the seminal record that gave us songs including the iconic ‘One’. The conversation also examines the power of culture in bringing people and countries together. Adam speaks about why Berlin still has a ‘maverick decadence’ and recognises the generosity of the German people during the refugee crisis.
‘Germany has had this tremendous powerhouse effect on Europe. Angela Merkel very much led in the refugee crisis and the German people have been extraordinary generous. So from our point of view – visiting again, that’s something to be celebrated’. – Adam Clayton, U2.
The interview includes footage from The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 provided by U2.
Having played to over 2.7 million fans in just 51 shows across North and South America, the
UK and Europe, and Mexico, The Joshua Tree Tour was the most successful tour of 2017.
The band’s upcoming eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour will kick off in Tulsa, Oklahoma on 2nd
May (Hot Press will be in attendance for the first show), and the European leg will open in Berlin with two shows at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. (31 August, 1 September) ahead of a run of sold-out home shows in Belfast and Dublin in October and November this year.
