The artist has also cancelled a one-off Los Angeles performance at the city’s Rose Bowl venue due to the fires.
The Weeknd has postponed the release of his new album Hurry Up Tomorrow, due to the California wildfires. He has also cancelled a one-off show at the city’s Rose Bowl venue that was due to take place on January 25, “out of respect and concern for the people of LA county”.
The new album was due to be released on January 24, but will now drop a week later, on January 31. This will be the sixth album by the Weeknd, AKA Abel Tesfaye. Hurry Up Tomorrow is the final part of a trilogy alongside After Hours and Dawn FM and is supposedly the last album under Tesfaye’s stage name.
Talking to W magazine in 2023, Tesfaye commented: “As the Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say. I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as the Weeknd. But I still want to kill the Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”
The new album is set to feature Anitta, Max Martin, Pharrell Williams, Playboi Carti, and others.
In regards to the wildfires in California, the artist said in a statement via Instagram: “This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time".

Tesfaye’s current focus, as he wrote in the statement, “remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild”.
The artist’s XO Humanitarian Fund has donated $4.5m (€4.4m) to aid hunger relief efforts in Gaza.
