Martin Leahy has rewritten Israel's Eurovision entry.
Last Saturday, Leen along with other Cork residents and pro-Palestine activists came together to perform ‘You Will Never Bury Palestine’ written by Martin Leahy.
‘You Will Never Bury Palestine’ is a song that Leahy rewrote from the Israeli Eurovision track as a protest against the inclusion of Israel in the competition.
The track was recorded in Coughlan's Live in Cork with the video created by Ed Fitz.
This past weekend, the Eurovision Song Contest took place in Malmo, Sweden. There has been controversy about the inclusion of Israel in the competition as the conflict in Gaza still rages on.
Israel was allowed to perform in the competition because the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) sees Eurovision as “a non-political music event and a competition between public service broadcasters who are members of the EBU. It is not a contest between governments,” said in a statement from the EBU.

Many believe that allowing Israel to compete with their song ‘Hurricane’ formally entitled 'October Rain' is highly political given the current climate, so the purpose of Leahy’s song was to encourage people to boycott this year’s Eurovision.
Similar sentiments have been shared by other Eurovision contestants like Ireland's performer Bambie Thug who said "the top six minus one were all freedom fighters and I adore all of us" in reference to Israel being in the top six finishers.
