Paris Hilton has defended Britney Spears against a statement Spears made in her testimony, saying it was taken out of context.
Paris Hilton is the latest celebrity to speak out in support of Britney Spears' during her ongoing conservatorship trial. Spears made reference to Hilton during her testimony in court last month, saying that she "didn't believe" Hilton's claims that she was being abused when she was in boarding school. Hilton has said the media misunderstood Spears' point.
"I know that she didn't mean it in that way," she said on her This Is Paris podcast."She was using it as an example.
"She meant when she saw it, she couldn't even believe it. What she said was, people hear that, 'It's Britney Spears, it's Paris Hilton. They have these perfect lives. Who is gonna believe? I didn't even believe Paris, who's gonna believe me?'"
Hilton went on to describe Spears's testimony as "hard to hear," saying that it broke her heart. She posted the podcast clip on social media, captioning that "I will always support and love Britney. We all need to use our voices to protect victims of abuse. She is so incredibly brave and an inspiration for speaking her truth."

This statement comes after it was announced earlier today that Spears' lawyer of 13 years had resigned. Renewed vigour for the #FreeBritney movement was sparked after the pop star requested to have her father removed from her conservatorship agreement. The request was denied by a judge last week.
This week, Miley Cyrus showed her support by chanting "Free Britney" at her Las Vegas gig. Christina Aguilera, who was Spears' co-star when they started out on Mickey Mouse Club, also posted on social media voicing her love for her friend. Each of these celebrities have shared experiences with Spears' through growing up in the public eye. They are amongst the numerous public figures voicing their support for the pop star.
As the trial continues, there has been talk of the establishment of an outsourced aid fund for Spears run by her high-profile supporters.
