The artist said the event was "grossly exaggerated" by the press and social media.
Singer-songwriter and poet Patti Smith collapsed on stage in Brazil on Wednesday.
Smith traveled to Sao Paulo for a two-day presentation of the CORRESPONDENCES project with Soundwalk Collective. The performance included recitations of her writing and live singing.
“Patti has suffered from an intense migraine the past couple days and had some dizziness on stage, but she still wanted to be there for all of us and you and perform today,” Soundwalk Collective wrote yesterday in a statement on their Instagram story, co-signed by Smith. “She is now being cared for by the best doctors in the most loving way and will be back on stage tomorrow night.”
Smith took to her personal Instagram to inform fans that she was okay.
“I was checked out by an excellent Doctor and was absolutely fine. Please do not accept any other story. With all the strife in the world, this explainable incident does not merit so much attention,” she wrote. “Thank you everyone for your concern. Trust me I am fine.”

The collapse happened roughly 30 minutes into the performance. She fell while reading a text about climate change, and remained on the ground for a few minutes before getting assistance. Smith was able to stand up on her own, and was taken backstage in a wheelchair.
“Unfortunately, I got sick, and the doctor said I can’t finish,” Smith said to the crowd, after briefly returning from backstage. “So we will have to figure something out. And I feel very badly,”
