Belfast-born, singer-songwriter, Paul Brady – who was raised in Strabane, Co. Tyrone – is coming back to Vicar Street with his band on April 17, 2024.
Incorporating folk, rock, blues, traditional Irish & and classic pop styles into his songwriting, Brady ranks among the most important and influential figures in post-war Irish music. His live performances, whether solo or with a full band, include songs from his extensive catalogue.
Paul Brady has been a prominent figure in the industry for over 50 years. Throughout his career, he has explored many avenues including stints in The Johnstons – one of Ireland's most successful groups during the ballad boom – and Planxty, as well as forging a distinguished solo career. His album with Andy Irvine – titled simply Andy Irvine/ Paul Brady, is regarded as one of modern Irish folk music's seminal works. It contains Brady's recording of 'Arthur McBride', an anti-recruiting song, which became strongly associated with the Strabane man. His songs have been covered by dozens of artists, including Carlos Santana, Tina Turner, Cliff Richard, Cher and Carole King.
