Lots to look forward to in 2010 including long-players from Paul Hourican, Saccade, The Dirty 9s and The Vibes!
Paul will begin recording his new record in December with acclaimed producer Karl Odlum (Gemma Hayes, David Kitt, Fionn Regan, The Frames, Mark Geary, Kila). Mr Hourican will be rounding off 2009 with a full band show on Saturday December 5 in The Backroom in The Cobblestone, Smithfield, Dublin.
Paul was delighted to receive a note from Christy Moore recently proclaiming his fan status and hailing ‘Let It Go’ as a personal favourite.
Dublin’s Saccade have released ‘Last Tango’, the first single from their forthcoming album (due out early next year). The last few months has seen the band share the stage with The Coronas, The Flaws, Director, Delorentos and Ham Sandwich. The Dirty 9s have just unleashed debut single ‘Lucy Opus’ from soon-to-be-released debut Stop Screaming, Start Dreaming. The long-player was funded by the prize money they landed as the triumphant participants in TG4’s Deis Roc and was produced by Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals). The past 12 months has been highly productive for the band. They landed a slot on the IMRO Showcase Tour whilst their song ‘Corridors’ was chosen for the Hot Press/Oxfam compilation.
Leitrim’s The Vibes are also readying a new record for 2010. You can get a taster in the form of ‘You’ll See My Heart’ which will be available from iTunes and downloadmusic.ie from November 20.
The band, formed by brother and sister Leo and Joanne Hogan, are former winners of the 2FM Song Contest and the IMRO An Tostal Song Contest.
From the ashes of The National Prayer Breakfast comes Clancy, former singer/songwriter and drummer with the Dublin band.
In his solo guise he has released his first single ‘Hope In Your Heart’ from imminent collection Road To The Heart (co-written with Herm).
Its b-side is a cover of Daniel Johnston’s ‘True Love Will Find You In The End’. You can catch Clancy live at Moxie Studios, Dublin on November 21.
Cork’s Hope Is Noise have launched their second album Under Friendly Fire. Not content with one launch gig, the band played three shows in Fred Zep's, The Quad and Crane Lane all on the same night! The Fugazi-influenced troupe have been together 13 years and released debut long-player Applaud Friends…The Comedy Is Over in 2007. The latest opus was produced by Ciaran O’Shea (ex-Cyclefly).
Congratulations to fellow People’s Republic noisemongers Fred whose track, ‘Damn You Hollywood’. was featured recently in hit US TV show Gossip Girl. Catch them live on their current domestic trek. Check hotpress.com for details………
Offaly’s Frantic Jack have finished a successful nationwide jaunt in support of new single ‘Firefly’, which follows on the heels of their self-titled debut EP. If you missed the current slew of dates you can catch them in the Club 38 Venue, Edenderry on Nov 27 or in Carmody’s in Monasterevin on December 19……
Wexford’s Chucky River are gearing up for the release of their five-track debut EP Personality Crash on November 21. The band will play an instore in Heartbeat City, Gorey Shopping Centre on the day. The CD was recorded by Pete Meighan (Couse and the Impossible, Hybrasil) and mastered by Jon Astley (Led Zepplin, Ash, Damien Dempsey)……..
Portlaoise indie favourite’s The Perfect Skins will launch their new single ‘Cloud Nine’ in Whelans, Dublin on November 19.
This is the third single to be taken from their critically acclaimed album A Reconstructed View which was released earlier in the year!
