'Retrograde' uses classic zodiac imagery to make a broader commentary about how we are masters of our own fate, as far as the environment is concerned. The video depicts a man going to see a fortune teller, where he views rising sea levels and other natural disasters in a crystal ball. Near the end of the song, the band reveals that Greta Thunberg is fortune teller.
Lead singer Eddie Vedder, who has long been an advocate for various social/political justice issues, recently appeared in the One World: Together at Home concert to perform 'River Cross' from Gigaton.
