The release of the new single hints at a potential album this year also.
Can't Deny Me is a compact political statement, the first original single to come from the band in over five years.
Featuring lyrics such as "Where's your vocabulary / your ignorance is sinful" and "the country you are now poisoning / condition critical", fans and critics are assuming these lines are directed at U.S, President Donald Trump, whom Eddie Vedder has spoken out against before. From taking a knee in solidarity with the NFL live on stage to mocking his presidential visit to Puerto Rico, Vedder firmly has his crosshairs set on Trump.
This comes as very little surprise however as in recent times the music industry is awash with political backlash and statements against Trump. In an online video monologue, U2's Bono speaks about how one of the songs off their new album was inspired by the turmoil that America finds itself in. Feeder released a song 'Veins' earlier this year which also comes across as a political call to action.
