Pete MacLeod - Rolling Stone
Scottish singer-songwriter is bright prospect
Pete MacLeod was recently chosen as tour support for Ocean Colour Scene. These aren’t exactly the words to stir up interest among music snobs. Well, don’t let that put you off.
The Glaswegian singer-songwriter pens and performs big jangly pop nuggets that overflow with love, enthusiasm and zest for life. I don’t think anyone from Glasgow has ever sounded this sunny and positive before! McLeod almost makes Teenage Fanclub at their poppiest resemble a manically depressed Goth band. Rolling Stone rolls along nicely with the uplifting opener ‘Let it Shine’ endowed with a killer hook. Lead single ‘God Speed’ is just the melodic side of shouty.
‘On The Other Side’ is a stark meditation about death and the afterlife. Sadly, not everything is of that calibre. ‘Re:Ality’ meanders into traditional meat and two veg singersongwriter fare and smacks of the kind of song title that you’d encounter in a school Battle of the Bands. ‘Panic’ is the sort of thing that could grace an old-fashioned B-side. But all told, Pete McLeod shows more than his fair share of potential. He’s a very bright prospect. His stone should keep rolling for years to come...
Key Track: 'God Speed'
