The newest track in Peter Gabriel's i/o album was released on the Buck Moon yesterday, along with video commentary of Gabriel talking through his creative process.
The former lead singer for Genesis, Peter Gabriel, has released his latest track for his ongoing project, i/o. The album centres around the connection between life and death, which Gabriel does not shy away from.
New single 'So Much' features a soft, almost spoken word cadence set to a simple, yet effective piano and strings backing reminiscent of Leonard Cohen's later works as he reckoned with his legacy in his final days.
In the companion video on his website, Gabriel explains, "So Much" is about mortality, getting old, all the bright, cheerful subjects. I think when you get to my sort of age, you either run away from mortality or you jump into it and try and live life to the full, and that always seems to make a lot more sense to me."
The album is released track by track, one on each full moon, along with a piece of artwork chosen by Gabriel. Each track also has two alternate mixes to the version first released. Whichever mix is released on the full moon, its counterparts are released on the following new moon.
'Bright Side Mix' denotes the work of Mark 'Spike' Stent, while 'Dark Side Mix' indicates Tchad Blake's work. Each of the tracks also has an 'In-Side Mix' courtesy of Hans Martin Buff at Dolby Atmos.

The first track of the project, 'Panopticom', was released on the Wolf Moon in January. For the July full moon, the Buck Moon, the Dark Side Mix was released first. You can stream the tracks released so far here, along with Gabriel's commentary on his work.
Gabriel was in Dublin last week touring his new work, including songs from i/o, at 3Arena.
