Edwin McFee breaks down the 12 tracks on Picture This' new album, out today.
Picture This' new album is out now! To celebrate its release, Edwin McFee breaks down the album track-by-track. You can listen to/buy the album here.
MODERN LOVE
The band’s hugely anticipated second album opens with a roar with this stadium-rattling number. Marrying ‘80s pop with a thoroughly modern, bleeding edge production, the catchy chorus is destined to ring out in arenas and festival fields across the globe and the pounding percussion adds some meat on the track’s bones.
IF YOU WANNA BE LOVED
Released earlier this January to whet fan’s appetites for album number two, this crowd-pleasing semi ballad boasts a knock out call and response hook and features a little Haim in its musical DNA (especially when it comes to the guitars). Mid-paced and dare we say rather sexy, it already feels like an old favourite.
ONE DRINK
Picture This fans will already be aware of this one as it was unleashed last Autumn. A slinky, synthy chart breaker, the tune flirts with funk and takes the band in a bold new direction. This will go down a storm live.
NEVADA
This is one’s of MDRN LV’s biggest and best moments. The kind of song that Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody would’ve written if he grew up listening to Justin Timberlake instead of Sebadoh and the Super Furry Animals, the track deftly plays with dynamics whilst tugging on the listener’s heartstrings.

DANCE AWAY WITH YOU
An effort that will warm the cockles of their legions of fans, this semi ballad calls to mind Red era Taylor Swift in places and is laden with sharp drum snaps and strong falsettos from Ryan Hennessy.
SOMEONE TO HOLD FT. CXLOE
One of MDRN LV’s biggest musical gambles, this country-inspired effort could provide them with the tool to crack open the American market. A heart swelling duet with Aussie singer Cxloe, strings, soaring vocals and lovelorn lyrics are the order of the day on this power ballad.
MAGNET
A track which wraps a relatable tale about drunk texting in a taxi (we’ve all been there) around a surging chorus, ‘Magnet’ is destined to be a huge favourite with fans of their multi platinum selling eponymous debut.
HURT NOBODY
MDRN LV producer Jayson DeZuzio’s sonic fingerprints are all over this one and the studio wizard (who has worked with the likes of Imagine Dragons) has helped deliver a super slick slice of pop. Hennessy's falsetto returns for this track and it’s never sounded stronger.
LIFE OF THE PARTY
Rivalling ‘Nevada’ for MDRN LV’s best moment, this world weary rallying cry against the often fake world of Instagram et al will give fans plenty to chew on with lines like “I can’t be the life of the party/ Can’t carry on being heartless/I’m better off being honest/ Or I get hurt.” The pensive, ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ esque verse and that fuzzed up guitar solo are nice touches too.
BROKEN
‘Broken’ sees their frontman use metaphors about technology to describe the human condition. Unfortunately, plugging yourself “out and back in” isn’t really an option in real life, but this seductive slow burner should serve as a great alternative to soothing the soul.
MORE THAN JUST TONIGHT
Based around the lyrics “I wanna be more than a regret in the morning” Picture This deliver another crowd pleaser with this one. A simple but effective keyboard riff, crashing drums and a catchy chorus ensures this will be a highlight live.

EVERYTHING OR NOTHING
One of Ireland’s biggest pop acts end their ambitious second full length with the tellingly titled ‘Everything Or Nothing.’ Uplifting and peppered with ‘80s pop influences, the mid-paced number should help ensure that Picture This’ fairy tale for the social media age is only getting started.
