Alt rock legends Pixies have announced their newest album, The Night the Zombies Came, out October 25, 2024 via BMG. Accompanying the news is the release of their latest single ‘Chicken’.
The LP, described as “the most cinematic record of their career”, will be the band’s tenth, and marks the first new music since 2022’s Doggerel.
“Fragments that are related and juxtaposed with other fragments in other songs,” says vocalist Black Francis. “And in a collection of songs in a so-called LP, you end up making a kind of movie.”
The group reunited with producer Tom Dalgety to record the album, who drummer David Lovering refers to as “a fifth Pixie. The Night the Zombies Came sessions saw new bass player Emma Richardson welcomed to the line-up. There’s also an expanded role for guitarist Joey Santiago, who, after contributing his first-ever Pixies lyrics on Doggerel, wrote the words to ‘Hypnotised’.

Pixies formed in Boston in 1986 and became synonymous with the subsequent alt-rock boom, influencing the likes of Nirvana, Radiohead, Weezer, The Smashing Pumpkins and more. They disbanded in 1993, before reforming in 2004.
