One of the most influential alt rock groups, Pixies, are back with Come On Pilgrim…It’s Surfer Rosa a rerelease of Come on Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa and Live From The Fallout Shelter.
Come on Pilgrim was their first release, a mini-LP of 8 tracks put together from a selection of tracks from their original demo tape. The collection was an instant hit in ‘87, making it to no. 5 on the British Indie Charts. In fact, the response was so strong that they immediately returned to the studio to record a full album: Surfer Rosa. It was released only 6 months later and to this day is one of the essential rock albums with some of their most iconic tracks (‘Where Is My Mind?’ ‘River Euphrates’ ‘Bone Machine’ etc.) The final disc in the collection is Live From The Fallout Shelter a recording of a radio concert that aired in 1986, making it one of the earliest recordings of the band. This is a relatively rare recording and possibly the most intriguing thing about these collections.
These rereleases will be available as standard collections of 3 CDs or 3 LPs. These are due out on September 28. However, there is also a deluxe LP version offering a clothbound hardbook, a lyric booklet and an art book. This is due out at some stage in November. All collections will have new artwork by the original designer, Vaughan Oliver.
Pixies are currently doing the final shows of their tour in America. They have plans to celebrate the anniversary in with 5 shows at Roundhouse, London between October 30 and November 3, where they will play Come on Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa in their entirety.
