A statement issued by Plug'd Records, the rock record shop based in Washington Street in Cork, says they will be “shutting up shop” before the year is over, although the statement offers some hope that they may re-open at some time in the future.
As Jim and Albert from Plug’d revealed to Hot Press, “The plan is to close the doors before the new year. We don’t know yet if this will be permanent or temporary. If anything does happen in the future it will be in a different premises with a lot of changes to the business.
After eight years it was a difficult decision to make, but it has become increasingly obvious over the last while that things are not working out in our current situation. Business is down – and overheads are staying up. Besides the current economic climate, the plight of record shops has been well documented. Sadly, a few in Cork have closed before us, and there are examples in any city you could mention. Selling music is not enough to get by anymore.”

Apologising for the inconvenience this might cause people, the statement says that Plug’d will shortly announce details of their exact closing date, their pre-closing sale and news of other activities.
