Video and audio from Gibbons' performance with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra will be available March 20.
Portishead's vocalist and lyricist Beth Gibbons will be releasing an album with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra.
The album will be comprised of Gibbons' and the symphony orchestra's performance of Henryk Górecki's Symphony No. 3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) at the National Opera Grand Theater in Warsaw in 2014. Portishead has not released a new album in over a decade, but members have continued to release music in collaborations or on their own.
The performance was conducted by Krzysztof Penderecki, the world-renowned polish composer and conductor whose music has been used in several films and television series, including The Exorcist, The Shining, Shutter Island and Twin Peaks.
"What used to be rather sniffily termed 'crossover' – different music worlds meeting – came bearing an expectation of collision," read a statement on Gibbons' website about the performance. "Here was not a collision, but a cocktail: voices and outlooks blending and co-habiting in a brave, brilliant and unforgettable evening."
Both video and audio of Gibbons' performance with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra will be available on March 20 via Domino. Preorder and other details are available now on Gibbons' website.
