"Make a decision, end direct provision."
A day before the country hits the polling stations, Post Punk Podge returns with a new politically-charged single, 'Stuck In The System' – produced by DJ Limewire.
The track is a scathing attack against Ireland's direct provision system: "Living in limbo at the hands of the State/ Seeking asylum not racist hate/ They put them in a home, some leave in a box/ Sanctioned insanity, the moral compass it lost."
The release of 'Stuck In The System' couldn't be more timely, given that several parties have made commitments to phase out direct provision if they're in government after the general election. Following ongoing campaigns by groups like MASI, there is mounting public pressure for immediate action against the deeply flawed system.
Post Punk Podge has never shied away from addressing urgent social and political issues through his music, from the housing crisis on 'Government Security' to mental health on 'Generation Xanax'.
In November, Podge and the Technohippies released the first instalment in their new instrumental mixtape series, Transmissions From The GPO – a stunning blend of ambient, funk, krautrock, techno and hip-hop.
Tipped as one of our 'Hot For 2019' Irish acts, Post Punk Podge is gearing up for another landmark year. You can catch him in action at the Kino, Cork for Quarter Block Party (February 8), Seoda Show's 7th Birthday (Feb 22), Bennigan's Yard, Derry (March 17), It Takes A Village (May 8-10) and The Black Heart, London (May 29).
