Waterford DJ Cailin Power has just picked up a prestigious international award.
On-the-up Waterford spinner Cailin Power has hit gold with one of her first DJ mixes, which was picked out by one of dance music’s most respected magazines, International DJ. The mag awarded it second place in their Raw Talent DJ competition. Following in the footsteps of fellow burgeoning Irish talent, Lorcan Mak (who has gone on to do great things since winning last year), the accolade is a triumph for Cailin.
Since the win, she has had a massive increase in hits to her Soundcloud DJ profile. Cailin told He’s Electric; “I was shocked and delighted, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I honestly didn’t think I could come anywhere in a competition as big as that, let alone second!” Listen here: soundcloud.com/cailin-power.
This year’s Movida Corona DJ competition stops off at Lillie’s Bordello on October 9 for the Irish leg of the heats, with a DJ set from Wally Lopez. The Spanish house jock is judging the competition, which will see the winner bag a place on next year’s tour. For more details on the competition, go to www.movidacorona.com/home.
If you noticed yourself grooving to an electro pop stormer while shopping in River Island recently, you’ll be glad to know that it’s Irish sensation Corrugated Tunnel. Championed here two months ago, the Cork-Dublin duo’s last single, ‘Remedy For My Soul’, has been picked up by the British fashion chain, which has playlisted it on their instore soundsystems. The band’s Edwin James said: “Although I haven’t heard it myself, people keep telling me they have been in the shop and heard it, which is brilliant.” The track is from the album, Minor Obsessions, which they’re launching on October 16 in The Grand Social (formerly Pravda), along with a set from Donncha Costelloe.
We rightly predicted Medusa’s first event in July would be the night everyone was talking about afterwards, and following the massive success of A Midsummer Night’s Party they’re back with Tallulah’s Secret. The three Dublin-based girls are keeping up their signature style of underground themed parties with a twist, with a night of electroswing, burlesque and free Absinthe and candyfloss on October 15. For the third instalment of their Beatyard mini-festival, veteran Dublin promoters Bodytonic have scored a major coup with the addition of Aeroplane to the bill. A DJ set from the rising star of 2010 will be topped off at the festival by German minimal queen Magda and west London’s seminal Jazzanova. The festival runs between Twisted Pepper and the Bernard Shaw from October 20 – 24, with more music, art events and seminars to be announced.
Dublin house imprint Bad Cake Records celebrate the success of their latest release, Mad Raquets Fawlty Beats EP, with the news that their previous club monster, James Hannan’s ‘Kaliba’ has been picked up for a forthcoming mix CD from heavyweight Italian DJ Marco V.
