Watch a bedazzled Aonair perform 'Bad Decisions' to a nearly empty theatre.
After releasing 'Bad Decisions' earlier this month, Donegal-born, Dublin-based artist Aonair has returned with a stunning new visual to accompany the track — and Hot Press is delighted to be hosting the premiere.
Aonair is the solo project of Brendan McGlynn and he announced with the single release that his sophomore EP Loveheart Birthmark will be released later this year. 'Bad Decisions' — an immersive, synthy alternative rock/pop track chock full of bold, 80s-inspired sounds — follows 'Your Man', and builds on the sonic themes McGlynn is exploring.
During the pandemic, Aonair began working on the collection of songs between studios in Dublin and his grandparents' house in the seaside Donegal village of Rathmullan, using his grandfather's homemade ironing boards as keyboard stands and his grandmother's old knitted blankets for soundproofing.
"Something I always do is procrastinate," McGlynn explained to us in our forthcoming issue's A&R Department. "If I have something to do, I will find any excuse to do something else instead. So when I have songs I'm trying to finish, I will inevitably meander off into writing a new song. By the time I finish one body of work, I'll already have a lot of the next project written. That is how 'Bad Decisions' came around."

Truly one of the most exciting up-and-coming talents of Ireland's music scene, the video was filmed at Fuel HQ and sees Aonair performing to an empty theatre — save for a dancer (Anja Nicholson), and his bandmates.
