The touching new single is taken from the indie-folk artist’s debut EP.
Indie-folk artist Pio Hartnett shares the visuals for his new single ‘Roses’ taken from his upcoming debut EP exclusively on Hot Press.
‘Roses’ starts off as a folk-infused ballad before Pio’s acclaimed R&B chops enter the fold and his brilliant vocal arrangements develop the track into an upbeat banger. The Andrew Ascough-produced video features Pio against the backdrop of Bray and Colliemore Harbour.
“It felt appropriate,” Hartnett explains about deciding to film in his childhood hometown. “This song is a sort of makeshift manifesto for me. I make songs like this. Winding, but hopefully worth the trip!”
“It felt really right to come to where my family used to live, to start things here. A kind birthplace for my first chapter, making songs and getting ready to share my first EP.”
The young singer may seem to be a new face on the scene but he has been quietly carving a name for himself in the Dublin R&B scene. “If ‘Roses’ is anything to go by, 2022 could be the year that sees Pio Hartnett emerge from backstage, and show the world what strange and beautiful sights he has seen in the dark,” a statement read.

The producer has been releasing music over the last few years. In 2018 he shared his first single ‘Dark Blossom’ which was well received and garnered radio play from Highland Radio, Liffey Sound 96.4FM and more. ‘Dunes’ followed in 2020 to further acclaim.
Pio fell into a career in music after toying with music software before dedicating himself to a course in BIMM and life in the industry. With his latest release ‘Roses,’ the songwriter looks set to take a step from the peripheries into centre stage to make his distinctive voice heard.
