R &B singer Carrie Baxter has premiered the video for her latest track ‘Woman’. The tune marked the Irish-born London-based artist’s first single release in two years earlier this month, and sees her venture into a more neo-soul drenched sound, evoking early Erykah Badu.
“This was one of those tracks where the minute I heard the demo beat, I took my pen out and the song sorta fell out of me very quickly,” says Baxter. “The song is very matter of fact in that, I did just sit my friends down and said, 'listen, Im not ok and we went from there.' This song came off the back end of a very tough chapter in my life, that evidently needed to happen. I lost a lot during this patch of time and ended up writing this song about the connection and vulnerability I found with the people in my life as a result.
Lyrically, the song is an ode to the importance of all the different women in Baxter's life – a sentiment echoed through the accompanying music video, which depicts the singer having a laugh with her female friends.

“I started to see the light when an influx of women just came into my life out of nowhere, from friends to coaches, it was a very uplifting period where I felt I could just sit with these women and start to rebuild my life bit by bit.
"The internal power shift and confidence I gained during this period was priceless. Im so wildly inspired by the women that are in my life and how they are holding it all together regardless of what is thrown at them or expected of them and still managing to be hot as hell. "
Baxter was hotly tipped when her debut single 'Lady' dropped in October 2019, with Hot Press calling her "one of the most thrilling new forces in Irish music". She's gone from strength-to-strength since, sitting at a cushy 450,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, where her feature on NOTION's 2022 track 'FOUND LOVE' has been streamed over 40 million times.
