Folk duo Charles James & The Rise have debuted a cinematic music video for their new single 'The Sailor and The Saint', set to be released tomorrow Thursday 14.
Husband and wife Charles James and Catherine O'Donnell are based along the rugged Donegal coastline, with James working a maritime pilot by trade. They are inspired by their surroundings, pulling from the darker folk genre with haunting choral undertones.
'The Sailor and The Saint' follows two ‘60s lovers acting as Bonnie and Clyde, in this gritty story of a relationship through struggles of being in constant danger. The track explores sacrifices made in love and the cost of living on the edge.
With rising and falling passages of fiddle, the track features eerie saxophone motifs as it follows a pregnant Bonnie and gangster Clyde who are “wanted dead or alive”. Pleading with his lover to leave, “You should go, it's not safe for you here, Don’t voice what I know, we can never be near, Cause I am a sailor and you are a saint”, the track is a painful story of the highs and lows of a love at risk.
The single follows the success of their track ‘Carry On’ released in June of this year. The duo have toured The US playing venues such as Chicago’s Windy City Radio.
