After a busy year of new releases, opening for the likes of New Dad and shortly, The Stunning - Dylan Flynn & The Dead Poets release their most enticing single yet - just ahead of their The Record Room performance on November 26.
Limerick-based indie up-and-comers, Dylan Flynn and The Dead Poets, are releasing their newest single - the bubbly, yet thought-provoking offering, 'Life', which Hot Press are delighted to premiere, below.
The bouncy single is ever so slightly different to the usual DFDP indie-rock sound. A lighter air opens, with symbol heavy drums leading the listener into a spiral of existential questioning, decorated with incandescent vocals and pretty melodies. Lyrics such as: "I'm losing track of time/I'm falling out of line/I feel like I'm going nowhere," highlight lead writer Flynn's expert lyricism, creating just enough anxiety to be soothed by the layered harmonies and delightful instrumentals.
As per usual, Dylan's vocals are out-of-this-world, unlike any other of the same style/genre. Flynn along with the charismatic Keegan Forde capture the perfect light guitar sound, with a beautifully refrained bass emanating from Emmett Ryan. Chris Britton and Evan Forde shine at the forefront of this piece, however, on keys and drums, respectively.
Speaking about the new track, frontman Dylan said: "'Life' is an upbeat Indie anthem that blends elements of Americana and Jangle Pop. The songs swirling guitars and glistening synths are contrasted by its dark lyrics, which I wrote about struggling to leave the past behind."
He continues: "The song delves into themes of regret and guilt, constantly reflecting on what I could have been done different."
Having written and recorded the track in their small studio space in Limerick city, the group enlisted the help of Mike Gavin (Windings) as co-producer and mixer, and the mastering skills of Richard Dowling.

The Limerick group blend elements of jangle-pop and alt-rock, taking influence from bands like The War on Drugs, Radiohead and The 1975. Having met in college and now use their music to delve into themes of loss, relationships and mental health.
The quintet now release 'Life' just ahead of their headline show in Pharmacia on November 26, featuring special guests Banríon and Small Church. Tickets are still available for the show - here.
According to one of the band's last shows, we can expect lots of new music soon. After racking up a busy 2022, the group's Instagram has taken fans behind the scene for a lot of studio days - so hopefully there's more to come sooner rather than later!
