'Smoke' is the latest single from the Belfast-based artist's forthcoming EP 'Part 3', to be released on November 17th.
Belfast-based electro-pop musician DYVR has shared the video for 'Smoke', the latest single from their highly anticipated forthcoming EP Part 3, to be released later this year.
Doused in minimal-electronica soundings with a gentle, driving pulse throughout, 'Smoke' is a song that confronts current attitudes. Penned during early 2020 lockdown when a lot of queer people felt their sense of identity was slipping away, it expresses a lot of the hopelessness that people were feeling at that time. Hot Press is delighted to premiere the dark yet powerful video, directed by Hannah Hawkins, which you can watch below.
"For the 'Smoke' video we wanted to use typical horror tropes to discuss how the queer community and other marginalised groups are demonised by gatekeepers to traditional, cis-het communities," DYVR said.
"We wanted people to feel as though they were having the rug pulled from under them. That they should question what seems to be the natural order. Often our idea of the world has been shaped by things that we don't even see."
Their new EP, Part 3, will be released on November 17th. Featuring queer guest artists Jess Kav, and Julie from HAVVK, it promises to be a beautiful piece of dark-pop electronica.
