Dark pop/R&B track ‘Meant To Be’ follows on from Emma Edel's recent debut single, ‘If I Can’t Have You’
Rising Kerry singer-songwriter Emma Edel is set to release her second single this Friday in the form of dark-pop/R&B banger 'Meant To Be'.
Influenced by heavyweight female icons Emeli Sande, Beyonce and Rihanna, as well as R&B and hip-hop artists; the talented singer has played acoustic sets in well-known venues since attending BIMM Dublin.
The follow up to her debut single ‘If I Can’t Have You’ infuses elements from her first track combined with a more edgy, reflective mood. The hypnotic song explores the experience of falling for someone when you least expect, even though love was never on the cards.
Produced with PCG Beats, 'Meant To Be' is Emma's second single to be created remotely together during lockdown. With her debut peaking at No. 4 on the Irish Radio Breakers chart and hitting No. 40 on the Irish Shazam charts; the breakout artist is hoping that her next offering will make even more of an impact.
"I wrote the song back in 2019, but kept it on the back burner," Emma explains to Hot Press, exploring the initial origins of 'Meant To Be'. The atmospheric number shows off the vocal prowess of Edel.

"It was one of those songs where I had the melody first, but it wasn’t until a few months later, I had the inspiration for the lyrics. A few months back, I started working on it with PCG Beats and we produced the full thing remotely. He did the track in Denmark, and I recorded the vocals in my room in Kerry! We were in lockdown, but I wanted to keep creating music so I knew I had to try get my own vocals done."
"The song is about falling for someone when you least expect to, and I think it’s the best kind of feeling but also a little scary," Emma adds. "It is that stage where you are reluctant to let go and embrace it, but you are ‘in it’ more than you had anticipated. I can’t wait to play the song live with a full band and get really energetic with it."
Emma Edel has been based in Dublin since 2014, writing, producing and gigging while perfecting her sound. Influenced heavily by pop, R&B, and hip-hop genres, Emma has been at home in Cahersiveen since lockdown, writing and focusing on releasing her material.
The musician explored songwriting while attending BIMM, going to gigs every week and playing with different songwriters and bands. During that time, Emma played her songs acoustically at The Ruby Sessions, The INEC Acoustic Club and The Zodiac Sessions and as a session musician in the The Button Factory, Opium Rooms & Whelan’s. She also played a role in Oscar-nominated film The Lobster in 2015.
More releases from Emma are most definitely on the cards for this year, having worked on her craft relentlessly over the past 12 months during the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I'm looking forward to the rest of this year and 2022 in terms of sharing more music, hopefully playing my live and bringing out my first EP. I am just finishing up two more singles that I recently recorded, so they will be out in the next few weeks too. I have a lot planned and I am excited for whats to come!"
