Hot Press is delighted to bring you the premiere of the video accompanying 'Goodbye Hawaii', the downright sunniest song of the summer by Emma Langford, which features some amazing imitation trumpet and seriously swooning pedal steel guitar.
There are, however, some storm clouds on the horizon.
“It seems like a sweet song until you listen to the words,” the Limerick singer notes. “It’s about putting on the facade of a perfect relationship. You’re past the honeymoon period, the spark’s gone, and it’s all kind of falling apart - so about two weeks in!”
The equally knowing video was filmed in Nenagh with fellow Limrock creative Shane Serrano whose CV includes The Coronas, Rusangano Family and Hermitage Green.
“I want the video to make people laugh, but to have a message - a nod to independent artists that work crazy hours, pulling the strings, doing a lot of work on their own out of sight, while people only see the glamorous exterior," the RTE New Folk Act of the Year resumes. "We’re poking fun at the 'what people think you do versus what you really do' meme in the arts.”
'Goodbye Hawaii' was produced and mixed by Chris O’Brien and Graham Murphy at The Production Suite Dublin, and features Davey Long on drums; Peter Hanagan on double bass; Emma on guitar and vocals; and Kealan Kenny on pedal steel.
Out on July 6, it gets the live launch treatment on July 12 when Emma and her band play a tented Limerick Summer Music Festival gig at Rossbrien Pavilion. There are also July dates at Garbo's, Castelbar (6); the inaugural Claremorris Folk Festival, Mayo (20) and Knockanstockan (21) to look forward to.

We're a bit biased here at Hot Press, but we reckon Ms. L is a massive star waiting to happen. Enjoy!
