Formidable hip-hop artist YINYANG - aka Lauren Hannan - is back with the fierce follow up to 'Bloodhound/Earthbound'.
Irish act YINYANG has unleashed her fierce new track 'Skitz', brimming with frenetic energy and premiered below by Hot Press.
Instantly packed with a punch, YINYANG (real name Lauren Hannan) once again bites back with cutting lyrics and fuzz-filled soundscapes to create an action-packed sound. Combining hip-hop sensibilities with a punk-infused ethos, Skitz is delivered with an undeniable sense of self-assurance and attitude.
“'Skitz' is referring to the sad clown paradox. To put it in a less decorative way, it’s when you pretend you’re grand when you’re not," Lauren explains. "Painting on a happy face and using comedy to disguise the negative emotions you might actually feel. I’m terrible for it, I think we all are sometimes.”
"This song was inspired by a lot of frustration mixed with optimism to be honest, I wanted to write a song that will be the most fun to play live when I can, to sort of keep me positive, because it was written in such a shitty time of all our lives - lockdown 2," Hannan continues.
YINYANG's latest single was heavily influenced by The Prodigy.

"They’re one of the most high energy bands to see live and I wanted a bit of chaos and energy in the chorus," the alternative hip-hop talent explains. "I imagined what I’d want to hear when I get to watch gigs live again, and 'Skitz' is it for me. I just wanna go fucking nuts with my mates in an audience listening to it if it weren’t my song, so I’m SO excited to perform it, that’s why there’s no words in the chorus - it's purely for vibing."
"I love putting sound effects and ad-libs in to my tracks, I use them to further narrate the storyline, e.g. having an outside perspective say ‘you motherfuckers lost your mind’ in the chorus, and having a vulnerable voice say ‘I just want a fucking hug’. They act as the voices in my head I guess and contrast to the main vocal line."
Hannah and her producer Tom spent a great deal of time working on the track, but had the best time creating it.
"When I finished the demo at the start of this year and sent it to Tom, he thought it was fucking bonkers. It is, but I think that’s what makes the song so cool to me. I love that it's sporadic, that the beats change so often like personalities and how dark but fun it is, totally paradoxical. I just have absolutely no idea if anyone else will like it."
YINYANG is currently working on four songs, which will be released in 2022.
|Future music plans are to keep gas levels on 10, keep releasing and make the next track better than the one before. I’m buzzing to give birth to four new little song babies."
The Irish artist’s debut single 'Black Mamba' was awarded the title of ‘Best Song in the World’ from Across The Line with BBC Radio Ulster last year. YINYANG was featured on Spotify’s misfits 2.0 editorial playlist.
