‘That’s The Point’ is the debut single from Tebi Rex’s DJ, R3D.
Some of the most promising names in the Irish hip-hop boom have joined forces for ‘That’s The Point’ - the debut single from R3D.
After years spent cultivating his unique sound in his own home studio, taking influence from West Coast rap, trap and ‘90s R&B, R3D is ready to present his vision to the world, with the release of his upcoming EP, The R3D Tape.
‘That’s The Point’, our first taste of the new project, is a hard-hitting track full of effortless braggadocio. Centred around an irresistible groove, the single features two of the brightest talents in the Irish hip-hop scene, Txmmy Rose and Max Zanga. Txmmy is a frequent collaborator of acclaimed artist Evans Junior, while Max is one half of rapidly rising hip-hop duo Tebi Rex. Tipped as one of our Hot For 2019 Irish Acts, Tebi Rex are set to release their debut album, The Young Will Eat The Old, on September 20, and will headline Lost Lane in Dublin on November 9.
R3D, who was born in Ireland to Nigerian parents, explained that ‘That’s The Point’ stems from his desire to redefine the status quo, and to cultivate a new culture.

“I produced the beat myself, and I feel I’ve really injected my personality into it,” he revealed in a statement about the release. “ I like to add samples and sound bytes to relay my message across and show my playful side.”
“The collaboration came about naturally,” he continued. “After I'd made the beat and recorded my first verse, I showed it to a few of my mates. I originally planned for it to be a solo track with two other verses, but when I showed Txmmy and Max, they felt it was hot and wanted to drop a verse. I said calm - and we had a track.”
R3D has built up an enviable reputation for his high-energy sets as Tebi Rex’s DJ over the last few years, with sets at Longitude, Electric Picnic, Other Voices, Body&Soul and Brighton’s Great Escape Festival. Building off that success, R3D is set to begin his own journey as a solo artist - and if ‘That’s The Point’ is anything to go by, we can't wait for what's in store.
