Having earned critical acclaim with previous single ‘One of Us’ earlier this year, Dunx returns with another stellar release.
Rising Irish-Australian musician, sound engineer and producer Dunx has released the vibrant video for his brand new soft rock single 'I Land At Sea'.
Known for his previous work with Inhaler, Sorcha Richardson and U2; the Sydney-raised talent has been taking bigger strides in his own rock direction. His latest single will surely have you dreaming of open roads, vast seas and hazy summers filled with late nights and early sunrises.
'I Land At Sea' features Dylan Lynch of Soda Blonde and Little Green Cars fame on drums and percussion, with mixing by Brandon Bost and mastering by Idania Valencia at Sterling Sound, NYC. Dunx produced the track himself along with his long-time friend David Anthony Curley at The Clinic Recording Studios.
Inspired by the vast plains and desert aesthetic of Utah in the US, the video sees splicing of psychedelic colouring - premiered below by Hot Press.
"The majority of 'I Land At Sea'' was written during my time in Southern Utah in 2019 with my brother Ross, who has created all my visuals," Dunx tells Hot Press. "We explored stunning places like Cedar City, Bryce Canyon, Zion and Bullion Falls. The song was heavily inspired by the landscape and there’s something really organic about having a visual identity created in real time with the lyrics."

"The title of the song has been strangely fitting to our movements. Once Covid hit, we left the States and moved to the sea in Howth. Here in Ireland, I finished the record, sifting through a lot of layers, adding elements, taking some away, putting some back in," the breakout multi-talent adds. "It was difficult to find the right balance, there’s a lot in there and it could’ve easily been over baked. I fell in and out of love a couple of times with the song before finally getting it right."
Dunx's brother Ross has made some magic with his unique edits, curating the perfect atmosphere to match the broody guitar-centred rock track.
"Fittingly, the video has had a similar journey; Ross had the bones of the video from Utah and completed it in Dublin, filming the final shots here. He went through the same process of removing and adding elements to find the right balance for the final edit. We edit quite similarly, he uses a lot of layers in his visuals, creating a very dreamy sort of collage."
"The song and the visuals seem to exist in the same space, having been created simultaneously and featuring the same landscapes, together they create a kind of positive feedback loop."
Inspired by the likes of Pixies, Amy Winehouse and Nick Cave; Dunx is making his mark with a highly refined and distinguished guitar-focused sound, filled to the brim with contemplative lyrics.
Recent releases include his debut single ‘Don’t Gotta Be So Bad’, and most recently ‘One Of Us’, plus a cover of Pixie's ‘Caribou', featuring Dylan Lynch on drums and Saint Sister’s Gemma Doherty on harp.
DUNX is set to perform his Hot Press Y&E Instagram live session tonight, sponsored by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. Tune in to our Instagram page at 7:30pm.
