Jape's upcoming album 9K HI, Vol. 1 will arrive on November 11 via Faction Records. "This is a tribute to the artists, DJS and hardware manufacturers who shape movements," the producer says of 'Eugh'.
Sweden-based Irish producer Jape (Richard Egan) has unveiled the nostalgic new video for 'Eugh', premiered below by Hot Press.
Taken from his forthcoming new album 9K HI, VOL.1, new single 'Eugh' is described as "dance music for walking around graveyards" and "a tape you found on the floor of a rave".
"EUGH sounds like the memory of a rave to me," Jape says of the track's origins. "I became obsessed with old samplers making this bunch of tunes, particularly the Casio FZ1. I think it sounds very emotional, and reminds us of a time when there were limitations with creativity which forced the creator to make decisions early on and stick to them. There is a lot of freedom in that. "
Joyful and nostalgic, 'Eugh' and 9K HI, VOL.1 are beautiful, spliced tributes to old technology and nights gone by. Especially given the incredible work of Give Us The Night, Sunil Sharpe, R.Kitt and more to revive Ireland's night-time economy, a video like this injects incredible momentum into the movement to ignite rave culture once more.
"The music presented itself one day when a Casio FZ1 sampler opened a door to an intriguing world," Jape said in a press release. "The world of low bit rate sampling - it sounds like tape, it sounds like long forgotten memories, it sounds beautiful. Many days of experimenting later, and here are 9 songs so you can also walk around in this world for a bit."

Speaking to Jape about the inspiration behind the track and accompanying video, he references Bassbin as a key spark.
"About ten seconds into this video (above), the lights go on when DJS Rohan and Naphta are reaching the pinnacle of their set. The scene is joyful and chaotic, it is a true moment of transcendence, typical of the nights had at that amazing club. Bassbin was one of the friendliest and most inclusive nights I was ever at in Dublin, true musical education was had on a week-to-week basis.
"Looking at these scenes from the vantage point of a few years down the road I knew it fit perfectly with these new tunes I've been working on, and so it forms the heart of this video here for 'Eugh'," Jape adds.
"All of these nights shape us and they are important for a city and a generation," he insists. It is heartening to see nightclubs being allowed to stay open until 6am in Ireland soon, many more nights like this will be there for the future kids. There is footage too from the Creation beach party and some other raves.
"This is a tribute to the artists, DJS and hardware manufacturers who shape movements."
In his list of thanks include Kate Butler, Reddy (aka James Remond, check out Notes On A Rave in Dublin), Don Rosco, Propaganda7, John Braine, DJ Cyber Dreamz, DJ M-Zone and the Faction Records crew.
