Hot Press are delighted to premiere the new 6-track EP from the up-and-coming Cork rapper.
From a young age, Kestine knew that music and performance were in his future. The rapper and singer-songwriter grew up with a heavy Gospel influence courtesy of his parents, alongside the big impression made by the sounds of hip hop, reggae, and soul.
Kestine began designing his own sound from these influences, despite the occasional taunting he would receive about his musical aspirations from other children. Adopting a soulful influence and pairing it with an orchestral composition style, all the while utilising modern electronic technology and producing material that nods to the classics, Kestine has carved out a unique soundscape for himself in the world of hip-hop.
As a Black Irish person, Kestine looks into the history of his culture through the lens of the modern BLM movement. His Reflection EP opens a window on the past, from growing up with a sense of wanting to be good enough, and now standing as an international talent, merging the two perspectives takes good leadership.
Engineered by Outsider YP, and designed to be a moment of looking back and appreciating where we are now, Reflection takes a good look at Kestine's interesting life through a diverse set of tracks.
