'Call It Fate' marks their first single as Water's Edge, and explores the sisters' stunning vocal harmonies and hypnotic down-tempo melodies.
Meath folk sister duo Water's Edge are set to release their beautiful debut single 'Call It Fate' everywhere tomorrow, premiered by Hot Press below.
Twin sisters Katie and Aoife Lynch from Duleek have both been singing since they could talk but they only began performing as a duet in 2013 after encouragement from their family and friends.
In 2017, they began busking in Dublin city centre and quickly built up a strong, supportive following. On the back of this support, they released an EP titled Follow Our Dream on CD, which included two original tracks as well as some of their busking favourites.
2019 was an incredible year for the duo, as they auditioned and qualified for the Voice UK 2020 and were successful in getting through the blind auditions and onto mentor Meghan Trainor’s team for the battle stage. This was a huge learning experience and a great introduction to the business of music, while allowing them the opportunity to meet with some incredible professionals within both the music industry and the world of television, radio and media.
Water's Edge has now performed at Sports Against Racism, the Busker Fleadh and Whelan’s in Dublin to name a few. The siblings have tried to keep busy, despite Covid - writing and recording more original material and sharing previous single 'At Night' under the moniker of Katie and Aoife.

'Call It Fate' marks a mature sound for Water's Edge, and elevates the outfit onto Ireland's music scene as fresh talent to watch. Enmeshing the genres of folk, alternative and pop together with skilful vocal control, the track blends the pair's emotion-fuelled voices perfectly.
"We wrote 'Call It Fate' in May of 2020 as we were starting to emerge from the creative slump that came with the 2020 lockdown," the act tells Hot Press.
"It's quite a dreary song which we feel reflects the mood of the nation at that time. The lyrics of the song are critical of our modern world and its attitude towards events such as the pandemic. I guess we were sick of hearing the phrase "stay positive" when there really wasn't anything to be positive about. That's where the lines 'Everything is fake but they call it by a different name, they call it fate' came from."
"We actually are quite positive people but from our songs you would never guess it!" the pair joke. "That's the thing about our music, we feel it's the one place where we can let out all the negative emotions and turn them into something beautiful that everyone can enjoy and hopefully relate with."
