Take a look at the new video from the acclaimed Irish alt-folk group below.
Ahead of the official release of Moxie's new single 'Is Ainm Dom' this Friday, we're thrilled to present the highly anticipated music video – premiering below. The track is the first single from their upcoming album The Dawn of Motion, out later this summer.
Moxie have crafted a sound that reflects the dazzling diversity of Ireland in 2021. 'Is Ainm Dom' brings together both Irish and Arabic lyrics, over a sound that fuses a traditional Irish approach with intricate African rhythms.
The result is both thrillingly original and deeply personal – as a reflection of the cultural backgrounds of the members of Moxie. Julia Spanu, the group's latest member, grew up in Carthage, Tunisia, immersed in the Arabic language and Tunisian culture. After moving to Ireland in 2016, she joined Darren Roche, Jos Kelly, Cillian Doheny, Ted Kelly and Josh Sampson in Moxie – and helped them to open a bold new chapter in their artistic journey, as they continue to explore the boundaries between tradition and innovation.
Since being formed in 2011, Moxie have travelled the world – including a state visit to Vietnam; folk festivals in Scotland, the US, and Australia; and tours in Europe and Canada. At home, they have played the likes of Body & Soul and Electric Picnic, and were invited by President Michael D. Higgins to entertain German president Joachim Gauck in Áras an Uachtaráin in 2015.
The Dawn of Motion was recorded at Camden Studios in Dublin in January 2020, and produced by Jake Birch. Alex Borwick (Parliament Funkadelic, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Sam Fender, Lankum) was the studio engineer during the recording process, while Jean-Christophe Morel contributed string lines.
