Watch the new, lush music video below for Naomi Berrill’s ‘Heron’, the fourth track from her latest album Inish.
On the heels of her fourth album Inish in October last year, Naomi Berill has just released a video for her song ‘Heron.’
A musician of multiple talents, Berrill is a prolific cellist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and singer. After completing her music studies in Scotland, Italy and Switzerland, the Galway native is currently based in Florence, Italy. Upon finishing her degree, Berrill began composing new material: arranging works from various genres and experimenting with cello technique, giving it focus as an accompanying instrument to the voice.
Her latest album Inish was released in October 2023 by Casa Musicale Sonzogno, Milan and following a successful launch in Italy, the Naomi Berrill Trio will tour Ireland in Spring 2024.

Inish marks an exciting new chapter in Berrill’s already prolific career. In this album, Berrill’s experimental approach to cello continues to explore new frontiers across multiple genres. Breaking from her practice as a solo artist, Inish marks Berrill’s first collaborative album with producer, guitarist and vocalist Lorenzo Pellgrini and drummer, cellist Andrea Beninati.
Operating as a three-piece is a new performing experience for Berrill, and it calls forth something contemporary and exciting; a fresh combination of folk, classical and jazz where her fluid and ethereal vocals—imbued with the accompanying colours of Pellegrini and Beninati—create music that is at once evocative and powerful. Jazz standards and traditional Irish airs sit alongside innovative interpretations of baroque and classical styles.
Inish reflects life on two Islands off the west coast of Ireland: Inishark and Inishbofin. The songs in the album recount the beauty of these islands and the strength and courage of the inhabitants, but also the harsh existence of the fishing communities there. The music expresses these extremes of island life: courage, adventure, love and light, interwoven with loneliness, danger, loss and pain.
Released today, the video for ‘Heron,’ track four from Inish, was filmed by Galwegein film-maker Bulabosca at Lough Corrib and Inishbofin, and features Berrill on a boat as she croons over light guitar finger-picking.
‘Heron’ is a percussive, string-laden track carried by Berrill’s shimmering vocals and soothing guitar instrumentation. The video likewise captures the evocative mood with golden visuals that scintillate against Berrill’s iconic silver cello and the gradually overcasted sky. You can watch the video here.
