Villa In France, formally kicking off in December 2018, is composed of Aidan Davidson (vocals, rhythm guitar, Nino Morelli (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Matthew Gillan on drums.
Rising three-piece Villa in France have returned with their fifth single in the form of ambient indie-rock anthem 'Burned Out'.
The band are steadily building up a reputation for their loud punchy sound and high energetic live performances, having gigged all around the North of Ireland. The trio have solidified a position in their local music scene through hard work and rigorous trial and error, travelling around the country from a young age to play for any audience who'd have them.
Villa in France focus their thematic work on penning politically charged and personal lyrics from a brutally honest teenage perspective of a teenager, influenced by the likes of Radiohead, Phoebe Bridgers and Cleopatrick.
'Burned Out' was a song originally written by Aidan Davidson on an acoustic guitar in his bedroom, opening up about his struggles with feeling mentally fatigued and drained from balancing his time as a working musician with college. Stuck in a headspace of feeling like everything would fall out from under him if he were to take a breather from his busy schedule, the frontman writes about a feeling of fragile stability and how people would do anything to maintain that stability within their lives.
Davidson heavily correlates music with imagery, aiming for 'Burned Out' to literally feel like a melting candle. The singer-songwriter brought this acoustic track to the band a while later and talked to them about the situation he was struggling with, with his bandmates immediately drawn to the track. The self-produced song is the first single off their forthcoming debut EP, and feels the most authentic to them as a band. 'Burned Out' effortlessly displays Villa in France's musical growth, from their first singles written when Davidson was 15 to the current track, finished at age 18.
The rising outfit's debut single ‘1990’ was released back in September 2019, pushing Villa in France into another high in their career after gaining over 16,000 streams on Spotify and a nationwide tour opening them to a growing audience. The track was written by frontman Aidan Davidson at age 16 after hearing his mother talk about how she and his father fell in love. Sophomore single ‘Flowers’ came out in December 2019, receiving praise for the refreshing emo sound and developing into a fan favourite.

Third single 'Man on a Bridge', shared in March 2020, tackles the topic of male suicide rates in Northern Ireland. Ever since starting college in Derry in 2018, the boys have grown a second home in the city and have noticed the impact drugs, poverty and history have had on its people. This single was to set them off on yet another nationwide tour, but was unfortunately postponed until further notice due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the pandemic, this song has amassed over 11,000 streams and was praised by the public for its mature songwriting content.
Fourth single ‘Faux Feelings’ landed in August 2020, highlighting the theme of animal cruelty and the usage of animal pelts in fashion. Spending the last two years showing off their versatility as musicians and recording artists by releasing a slew of singles, the boys have since been focusing on refining their sound and cementing Villa in France's style. The indie-rock band are expected to release their debut EP this autumn 2021, with a Dublin show set to be announced soon. The band are slated to perform their long awaited hometown show in The Atlantic Portrush as part of their single launch on July 30th, so watch this space.
