'Any Day' is the first single from the Irish hip-hop artists' upcoming collaborative EP, The Metropolitan Project.
Irish artists ØMEGA and Ill Diam have shared 'Any Day', the first single from their upcoming EP, The Metropolitan Project, set to be released on April 5.
Ardee, Co. Louth-raised rapper ØMEGA began his career several years ago under the alias Tommy G. Now aged 21, he has adopted a new moniker, and has signed to London-based brand/record label Waverton Corp. In partnership with WordUp Collective, ØMEGA performed on both the Arlot and Mindfield stages at Electric Picnic in 2018. He was also featured at the CVC x District Magazine event at Dublin Fringe Festival in 2018.
Dublin-based producer Ill Diam, ØMEGA's collaborator on the upcoming EP, first appeared on the airwaves with the Souletiquette collective on RTÉ Pulse in 2014. With a sound that combines hip-hop, trap, R&B, jazz, afrobeat and house, the 24-year-old producer performed at both Longitude and Electric Picnic last year with Souletiquette. His debut single 'Ridin' Round' was also featured on Spotify's 'New Music Friday UK' at the start of 2019.
Clocking in under two and a half minutes, 'Any Day' is an explosive track that’s short, sweet and straight to the point. A sample from the retro video game Streets of Rage kickstarts the aggressive beat, layered with intricate hat rolls and rhythmic percussion patterns, and driven by a heavy kick and snare combo. ØMEGA’s intense vocals take centre stage as he flows effortlessly on top of the heavy drum sequence. With backing vocals and ad libs from Irish artist Rogan, the track's energy is reminiscent of Jay-Z & Kanye West’s Watch The Throne, as we hear the two rappers going back to back on the anthemic chorus.
In a statement, Ill Diam revealed the inspiration behind the beat:
"The beat for 'Any Day' was actually made while I was in Hong Kong for work back in 2018. Just the fact of me being able to travel to Asia for work was pretty cool. It was my first time there and while I was there I wanted to make something different to what I usually produce, to commemorate the fact that I was in Asia, I guess.”

ØMEGA, meanwhile, was inspired by his travels on the other side of the world:
"I was in Toronto. I had gotten into a routine of going out and exploring the city early in the day, getting back to the apartment and writing a record while my girl slept before we went out for food. I was working through these beats and 'Any Day' came late in the trip. It came from the thought of getting home and playing these songs (I already had like 6) for my people.”
