Following the release of 'Heart + Bones', her first solo single in four years, Róisín O is back with the highly anticipated music video for the acclaimed track – premiering below at 8pm!
Having established herself as one of the country's most captivating talents with the release of her debut album, The Secret Life Of Blue, in 2012, Róisín has spent the last few years exploring a new side of her artistry through grit-pop duo Thanks Brother, formed with John Broe in 2018. Now, however, following her involvement in the No.1 single 'Dreams' with Irish Women In Harmony, she's returning to her solo roots, with 'Heart + Bones'.
"Being in lockdown on and off over the last year really gave me time to breathe," Róisín tells Hot Press. "All of a sudden, all the plans we had for Thanks Brother were cancelled, and all I could really do was sit at home and write music.
"To be honest it took me a while to start writing again," she continues. "But once I did, I felt the songs that were coming out were completely for myself. I wasn't writing with a purpose in mind, like the next single or a 'radio hit' – and that honesty is what's intriguing about them. It felt like the right time to get back to Róisín O."
The single is the first of four new tracks created during lockdown – offering a taste of what to expect from Róisín's upcoming EP in September. Written with her brother, Danny O'Reilly of The Coronas, while in isolation in Dingle, 'Heart + Bones' finds Róisín taking a raw, confessional approach to her songcraft.
"This song was waiting to be written for a long time – this part of my life that I just didn't want to want to deal with," she reflects. "I think everyone can relate to losing someone in some form or another. This song was me finally facing those feelings – just letting it pour out, and letting myself not be okay out loud. It was a therapy I needed to have with myself!"

The video was also shot in Dingle over lockdown – directed by her partner and collaborator John Broe.
"In half of the video, I'm all glam, playing the piano in front of my parents' fireplace, and in the second half, I'm wandering around the local beach like a wet dog," Róisín says of the video shoot. "It was actually pretty funny – there were loads of people around the day we shot on Muiríoch Beach, and they must have thought I was a mentler, 'cos I kept pouring bottles of freezing cold sea water over my head, to make it look like I'd been caught in the rain!
"John is a genius director and made it look amazing as always though. It was quite emotional shooting the last scene. We wanted it to portray this broken version of me when I first wrote the song in that house in Dingle, and I think John really pulled it off."
