Watch Hot Press' video premiere of quartet Sky Atlas' new video for track 'Hollow Embrace'.
Dublin's rising stars Sky Atlas have unveiled the video to accompany their newest single 'Hollow Embrace,' premiered today by Hot Press. The release coincides with the group's Irish winter tour that they are currently on.
The track masterfully blends folk instrumentation with electronic production. It feels big and cinematic, with multiple string layers, guitar picking, and soulful vocals.
Sky Atlas' frontman and writer of the song Lughaidh Armstrong-Mayock said "once [he] brought it to the band, the piece was given a much, vaster, electric sound, with Ryan [McClelland] and Danilo [Ward]'s driving drum and bass parts, and Louis [Younge]'s layers of distorted violin."
Lughaidh revealed that the goal of the track was to create "a sense of drama and atmosphere in the arrangement." It was recorded and engineered by Joe McGrath, mixed by James Darkin and mastered by Ivan Jackman.
Premiered by Hot Press, the video is an eerie and distorted story that shows a woman, played by Saoirse Lambkin O'Kane, in a wedding dress in the dark woods. The band is also there playing their song in these same woods, and they each encounter the woman separately. Directed by Georgia Kelly, the music video may make you forget you're not watching a movie.
"The video touches on themes of abandonment, rage, jealousy and lust. The main character personifies the mind, which is subject to these everyday thoughts which strive to keep us in an anxious, insecure state," the group explained.

Sky Atlas aim to capture "the true spirit of freedom and exploration" in their music. They pick up inspiration from artists like Radiohead, Big Thief, Wolf Alice and Fiona Apple, but don't stay tied down to any one sound.
The group's tour began on the fourth of November at Dingle's Green Room, and will conclude on the 8th of December at Limerick's The Record Room.
