Watch the video for 'Picadors' (Voiced by Auntie Joan) below.
Over the next three days, we're premiering three brand new videos from Telefís – the acclaimed collaborative duo made up of Cathal Coughlan (Microdisney, Fatima Mansions) and renowned producer Jacknife Lee – kicking off today with 'Picadors' (Voiced by Auntie Joan).
Following the release of their debut album, a hAon, earlier this month, Telefís recently returned with the Archbishop Beardmouth At The ChemOlympics EP – which the video trilogy is taken from.
The songs are reimagined versions of tracks that originally featured on a hAon, with spoken word contributions from family and friends.
Each video was made by Jacknife Lee, using vintage footage from the RTÉ Archives.
"The first one we did was ‘Picadors' with my Auntie Joan," he tells Hot Press. "My cousin Martina recorded Joan on her phone. I had no idea if this would even work, but because of the lockdown no one had much else to do. Joan’s voice adds a sense of loss and deepens the melancholy.
"I wanted the video to be a series of childhood memories: hazy, fuzzy with the focus slightly off the main action the way kids see the world; small to big."
