With a string of releases over the past year, Tommy Cullen has quietly carved out a presence as one of the most promising singer-songwriters in the country. Now he's ringing in the changing seasons with 'In The Winter' – an indie-folk duet, featuring fellow rising star Amy Ellen.
“We met a couple of years ago at a gig we were both playing," Tommy explains. "Amy had heard the first single I put out and suggested we sing something together, so I had that in mind for a while. When I started writing what became ‘In the Winter’, I thought ‘this is the one’. The prospect of working with Amy made it easy to prioritise getting it finished, and it was such a joy to hear her contribution when the time came. I think we’re both really happy with how it turned out, the vocal blend seems to work nicely.”
For Tommy, 'In The Winter' caps off a series of songs recorded in 'The Gatehouse', his former home, during lockdown. The tracks showcased the impressive range of his style, as well as the diversity of his subject matter – exploring everything from scary sharks to monochromatic rainbows.
Amy, meanwhile, released her highly anticipated debut EP, Only You Will Know, in September.

The artists worked on 'In The Winter' remotely, in their respective homes – blending Tommy's signature home-recorded sound with Amy's delicately layered harmonies. The track is a celebration of love in uncertain times, offering comfort as winter approaches. It was mixed by Marcus Jay, who also contributed additional production and drums, and mastered by Ivan Jackman at Hellfire Studios. The single artwork features photography by Stephen Cullen.
