Animated by Ciaran Casey of Wilsain Media, the Dublin outfit's latest video take video game soundtracks to the next level.
Irish indie-rock trio Wild Tibetan Monks have shared a cinematic music video for their forthcoming breakthrough single, 'Cartoons' - premiered below by Hot Press.
With incredible animation and visual detail, the music video creatively weaves old cartoons into a futuristic 3D world. The story follows the hero’s journey as he tries to escape the old cartoons, as they haunt him with painful memories of the past.
“I wanted to go outside my comfort zone and really do something unforgettable," animator Ciaran Casey of Wilsain Media says. "The band wanted me to utilise old cartoons in the video, and my first thought was to put them on screen in a 3D environment.” He goes on to say, “This took a month to create, I wanted the visuals to be just as good and unique as the band's sound.”
The music video is the perfect visual for the song, which explores the pressures of modern life, pondering whether the life we're expected to lead will actually make us happy. With powerful guitar riffs and pensive lyrics, Wild Tibetan Monks play with tension and release throughout the track. 'Cartoons' merges nostalgia with longing for simpler times, which the visuals understand perfectly.
Wild Tibetan Monks is composed of Sean (bass, vocals), Ringo (guitar), and Liam (drums). The Dublin outfit met in college back in 2011 and performed together for several years before moving to Perth in 2018. The band toured around Western Australia, and had a varied lineup over the years - including a horn section - and later began to record original music. The global pandemic forced the band to move back to Ireland.
