Rising Irish hip-hop talent YINYANG – aka Lauren Hannan – is set to release her new single ‘Kill Jester,’ and we at Hot Press are ecstatic to be able to premiere the riveting track today ahead of its release tomorrow, November 29.

Previously working at festivals as a production manager, Hannan lost her job during the onset of Covid – an event which led the Irish artist to hunker down and teach herself how to produce music. Through writing everyday and experimenting with forward-thinking sonics, Hannan transformed into YINYANG – an artist blazing on an uphill path, offering a badass and bold sound.

YINYANG’s debut single ‘Black Mamba’ was awarded the title of ‘Best Song in the World’ from Across The Line with BBC Radio Ulster upon its release last year. The Irish hip-hop talent has already been tipped as an 'Artist to Watch in 2021’ by ATL, along with continued support from the likes of DIY, Clash, tmrw and Atwood Magazine, as well as being featured on Spotify’s misfits 2.0 editorial playlist.

Tomorrow, YINYANG is back and more self-assured than ever, with the release of her new single ‘Kill Jester.’ The track combines cutting lyrics and fuzzy, distorted production to create a ruthless, invigorating sound sure to hook her listeners once more.

The track tells a tale of killing off the old versions of yourself that no longer serve you for growth. Of the song’s meaning, Hannan shares, “Each verse represents a different character or side to me. It’s about leaving old parts of you behind. YINYANG is a character I play, she’s the baddie in me I don’t get to exercise in my normal life, and she’s ready to explode.”

Combining hip-hop sensibilities with a punk-infused ethos, ‘Kill Jester’ radiates with an undeniable self-assurance and ferocity that is representative of the quickly rising artist herself.
