The follow up to 2014's release Primus And The Chocolate Factory With The Fungi Ensemble will be released September 29th.
Primus have announced that they are returning with a new single in anticipation of their ninth studio album, The Desaturating Seven, which will be released on September 29th.
The trio of experimental rockers have spent a career drawing from all sorts of bizarre and wonderful inspirations and this new album is no different.
The Desaturating Seven takes inspiration from a children’s book that legendary bassist Les Claypool read to his kids when they were younger. The book follows a group of goblins that represent all the colours of the rainbow on their quest to drain all of the colour out of the world.
Claypool said, “The use of colour and darkness both in the paintings and the writing was compelling and now, near two decades later, the metaphor of greed, gluttony and deceit versus the unity of the masses is eerily relevant.”
“I brought the notion to the Primus guys and they were all for it. Plus, I figured it's about time someone brought ‘Goblin Rock’ back to the fold.”
For a band that has written songs about a homicidal hillbilly named Mud, to the exploits of Wynona and her "big brown beaver", to one of the best versions of 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' ever recorded, it is no surprise that they were more than willing to dive into “Goblin Rock”.
The album is available for preorder now.
