New beginning, new sound
After their critically acclaimed debut album The Witch, British band Pumarosa is back! The now four-piece returns with the single 'Fall Apart' and announce a new album as well as tour dates. The upcoming record called Devastation is set to release on November 1st.
Pumarosa's new song 'Fall Apart' is an indicator for their fresh and transformed sound. With a fast drum'n'bass inspired tattoo beating urgently beneath a sawing riff and a wide, synthesised expanse, it's a dramatic evolution from the band's more guitar-driven debut. On 'Fall Apart' they dig deeper into electronic influences ranging from Aphex Twin and Autreche to old jungle tunes.
The new music comes after a difficult time for the band. Pumarosa's lead singer Isabel Muñoz-Newsome was diagnosed with cervical cancer in the same week The Witch came out. The resulting surgery and recovery totally changed her relationship to her body (and how to write about it). Inner-band relationships also evolved following the departure of bassist Henry, which further energised Pumarosa to explore new spaces in their already-expansive sound.
