Second outing from Dublin's best-kept secret
For five years, the best place to be in Dublin on a Monday night was upstairs in Dublin’s Ha’penny Bridge Inn, listening to the multi-talented Sick And Indigent Song Club. Alas, that residency is no more; but the good news is that the band’s just-released second album, Punch Drunk, is a trove of wonderfully varied tracks, which brilliantly capture the essence of The Sick And Indigents live. A joy from start to finish, this record’s timeless old-time Americana both touches the heart and tickles the toes. From the rousing ‘Hudson Dusters’ to the aching comfort of ‘It All Gets Easier’, songwriters Gary Fitzpatrick and Angie McLaughlin beautifully counterpoint one another against superb musicianship from the rest of the band. Talk about punching above your weight!
