As the legendary British singer-songwriter turns 80 in 2025, this tour marks a major milestone in both his life and his remarkable career.
Legendary British singer-songwriter Ralph McTell is set to embark on his biggest Irish tour to date in 2025. Spanning 20 shows over four weeks, the tour will begin on April 24th in Wexford and conclude on May 18th in Sligo.
With over five decades as a fixture of the folk scene, McTell’s music continues to connect with fans across generations. As Ralph McTell turns 80 in 2025, this tour marks a major milestone in both his life and his remarkable career.
Still deeply passionate about performing, McTell sees the tour as a celebration of longevity, artistry, and the enduring love for live music. His bond with Irish audiences has grown over the years, dating back to his first show in Belfast in 1969. Since then, he has played at iconic venues across the island, and this national tour will be his most extensive to date.
"I have been doing shows in Ireland for many years. Firstly in Belfast in 1969 and later in Dublin, eventually getting around the whole country, but it has taken a while to do a national tour," McTell says. "In 2025, I shall be undertaking my biggest and most comprehensive set of dates around Ireland ever. My 2023 tour was hugely enjoyable, and 2025 is going to be a real celebration. I’m looking forward to it already."
Ralph McTell has always been open with his audience, and in recent years, he’s faced some personal health challenges. After being diagnosed with prostate cancer, he’s continued to tour and make music. By sharing this experience, he hopes to highlight the importance of early detection and treatment—a message that deeply resonates with many of his fans.
Ralph’s resilience, combined with his undying love for music, shines through as he prepares for this monumental tour, reminding us all that age and illness don’t have to slow us down. Time Drift of the Road promises to be a moving celebration of both life and song.
