Along with the usual fireworks and weapons, pineapples have now been listed as a banned item at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals.
The BBC reports that the festivals have banned the fruit because of planned performances by Glass Animals. Fans of the band are known to bring the fruit to gigs as a reference to a lyric in the song ‘Pork Soda’ that says, “Pineapples are in my head”.
Joe Seaward, the band’s drummer, responded to the ban by saying: "It's fruitist. Watermelons are fine, but not pineapples?"
Seaward thinks that fans are going to take this ban as a challenge and try to sneak the contraband fruit in anyway. It is not like anyone has snuck things into a festival before, right?
A spokesperson for the Reading and Leeds Festivals has commented: "Organisers were a little concerned about hundreds of pineapples turning up on site so decided to ask fans not to bring them along.
The spokesperson added: “The tongue may be slightly in cheek on this one."
