Drummer Chad Smith confirmed the new music in an interview with Rolling Stone.
Red Hot Chili Peppers have confirmed they're working on a new album with old on-again off-again guitarist John Frusciante, one month after announcing his reunion with the band.
Drummer Chad Smith revealed that the Chili Peppers are writing new songs and working on a new record in a recent Rolling Stone interview about his new art exhibit. Despite the strict orders, "DON'T TALK ABOUT THE BAND," Smith said that he was "psyched" about John's return and the new music.
"The festivals are the only shows booked," he said. "For now, we’ll mostly be concentrating on new songs and writing a new record. We’re all real excited to make new music."
Much to the delight of longtime fans, Red Hot Chili Peppers announced Frusciante's return via Instagram last month. The guitarist joined the band in 1988 and departed in 1992, later rejoining in 1998. He most recently parted ways with the Chili Peppers in 2009, citing a desire to make different types of music, and was replaced with previous collaborator Josh Klinghoffer. But much like Frusciante's last hiatus, he can't seem to stay away from the band for too long.
