Witherspoon's production company determined to tell the story of the founder of one of the most famous feminine icons.
From Legally Blonde to a powerhouse production company, Reese Witherspoon has been quietly building a career based on pursuing and creating great roles for women, and now she has her eye set on the ultimate feminine icon: Barbie.
Witherspoon’s production company Pacific Standard have been responsible for some of the decade’s most original and critically acclaimed dramas about women; the thrilling Gone Girl and the emotive Wild. Now, Witherspoon and Pacific Standard are developing a movie about the creation of the Barbie doll. The film will be an adaptation of Robin Gerber’s book Barbie And Ruth: The Story Of The World’s Most Famous Doll And The Woman Who Created Her and will tell the story of Mattel founder Ruth Handler as well as that of her iconic creation.
Witherspoon is also considering starring in the film, and we can clearly see a clear relationship between the determined actress and the plucky, multi-talented blonde woman who created the world’s most loved career-woman, Barbie. This isn’t the only film inspired by Barbie; Sony is collaborating with Juno writer on a Barbie project which is more of a story about Barbie going on adventures than a dramatization of the story behind the doll.
Should we dare to expect some Batman V. Superman-style mashup of films in the future?
