Album Review: Jah Wobble's Dream World
Check out our review of this post-punk maestro's excellent new work!
Mr Wobble is not a man to let the grass grow under his feet. Nor is he one to waste time devising elaborate titles for his output. Take ‘Chunk Of Funk’ for example and there you have it. That’s just what it is; a massive chunk of Nile Rodgers-style hot’n’sweaty brothersuckin’ floor-filler. All the more impressive for being a mostly solo endeavour recorded at his home studio.
Or how about some ‘Cuban Dub’? Once again, you get exactly what it says on the tin. Being a bit of a Latinophile, my old man would have loved this. In my mind’s eye, I can see him cutting the old Steiger snake-hip shimmy as a gaggle of admiring females egg him on. The nut didn’t fall far from the tree either, I can assure you. Might have fallen on its head though. Or perhaps some ‘Latin Jazz Dub’? There’s that picture again. The auld fella shaking his ass. It’s yours now. And welcome.
All we need is an adaptation of the ‘Molly Malone’ melody for a bit of ‘Dub Dub’. Maybe someday.
There’s a lot of brilliant stuff on this album. The sort that gets your ass cheeks creating polyrhythms you didn’t know they were physically capable of. I could go on but I’m only allotted a paltry 250 words. You should just get it and judge for yourself.
For my part I’ll just leave you with the image of a 70-year-old twerking his moneymaker to the beans. Enjoy.
